Contest is open: ‘Give a new face to Winterface’
Vito Technology opens today a contest called ‘Give a new face to Winterface’.
A lot of Winterface fans have expressed the desire to create new skins for Winterface and now the opportunity is there for them to grab. So get creative and send Vito Technology your new Winterface skins.
Vito Technology will collect them and show them on the http://blog.vitotechnology.com selecting “staff favorite” each week.
Vito Technology will select the best skins, adapt them and let our users download freely additional skins for the new Winterface version coming out in summer.
With previous creators’ agreement Vito Technology will name the new skins with the title given by its creator (feel free to use your personal name or use your creativity for it).
Great prizes are available for the best skins: a mobile device for the winner and bonus cards ($) for second and to fifth place.

- send your files via email to Olya at vitotechnology dot com
- follow updates and see your skins published on Vito Technology http://blog.vitotechnology.com
- send skins in the following 3 weeks

In the news section on the main site, it mentions a psd file available for download. I don’t see it here.
You guys rock! Can’t wait to see submissions.

still no submissions?
i was playing around with the icons and tried to create some new – but its not ready for submission yet.
and i`m a bit disappointed because no change of backgroundcolor/backgroundimage is possible…right?
but anyway – winterface is great! so easy to use und runs fine on my ancient pda – but i`d like to customize a bit more.
maybe i have to wait for the new version:)

No submissions:( Though I’ve received some letters from our users who started drawing the skins. I think we can prolong the contest and wait until all people could send us their works.
You can change the background color!
June 5th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Unfortunate. Fortunately, you can prolong the contest. It’s a really good program and organized.
June 5th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
ah ok – i see: i`ll change the background-layer in the psd file.
and can i use an image/gradient as background layer?
…and sry – maybe not the right place to post suggestions:
i rub the lamp and here are my wishes!
the possibility to add
- hidden separators/placeholders to change the arrangements of icons
- shortcuts to pages, so i dont have to scroll through all to get to the desired one
- customizable icons for each shortcut
- vertical scrolling
…and winterface would be perfect!

I hope that we will do the support of the background image for Winterface. So this is your design, you can do whaterver you want though we can’t give you 100% guarantee that we shall add the support of your original skin.
Thanks for your ideas. For me the number 1 and 3 are not clear. Could you explain this in detail?
June 5th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
ok i`m trying my best to explain:
1.hidden separators/placeholders
imagine 4 icons at the top of the page – and 4 icons at the bottom.
(in between there would be 2 rows of “placeholders” or “hidden icons” – just to create the blank space)
3. when adding a program/shortcut you can always choose an individual icon (browse for it) – so you are not forced to use the “built-in” icon of the prog.
…and maybe the option to show/hide the text beneath the icon
:)

Hi,
Nice initiative. I’d give it a try if the instructions would be more clear or alternatively, if you would post a PNG example file of the current, original icons, fully layered and explaining the function, requirements and limitations of each layer. It would be easier to work on the exact file than build one from scratch – especially since I don’t really understand the layering you use and the colors lmitations imposed by Winterface.
Maybe this lack of clear explanation and/or a good example file is the reason why you’re not getting as many designs as you’d normaly expect.
My 2c,
Al

Hi, Al!
I gave explanations to everybody who contacted me and tried to give thorough instructions.
Anyway thanks for your critics we’ll take that into consideration in future.

Just add the possibility to change the backgroud by image or colour (like spb shell) and for me will be the perfect IU ever made.

Well, to soon to say if it’s good, but at least it’s well designed.
I mean I thought I would be blocked after adding some interests, but the site helps you to add more.
Cheers
